A Day in the Life at Gastro Nicks
We may be biased, but we think there’s something special about walking into Gastro Nicks - the smell of cheese, the shelves full of wine we’ve chosen ourselves, and the chance to banter with people who love good food as much as you do.
But what goes on behind the counter each day?
Our mornings begin early. We always start with fridge and freezer checks – freshness is everything! Then come the deliveries – these may be artisan cheeses, fresh fish, a pallet of Italian wines or seasonal treats, each one sourced with care. We go through everything by hand, so we know exactly what we’re putting on the shelves.
It’s not long before we’ve got our first customers. Some pop in for their weekly essentials - a favourite wine, a wedge of Westcombe cheddar - while others browse perhaps asking for hamper ideas or gift suggestions. There’s always time for a story, a tasting, or a recipe tip.
In-store and online
In the spare moments, we carefully pack our online orders. Whether it’s a birthday gift box heading north or a ‘Taste of Sicily’ hamper bound for London, we treat each one like it’s being delivered to a friend.
The days always bring a surprise - a new batch of olive oil to try, a local customer sharing a recipe, or a quick restock of that cheese that everyone has suddenly discovered.
A passion for good food
What ties it all together is passion. For good food, for small producers, and for the community that supports us.
So next time you visit Gastro Nicks - in person or online - know that behind every product is a team that loves what they do.
We’re not just here to sell food — we genuinely love it. Whether you’re after a taste of Italy or just fancy a chat about cheese, we’re always happy to help.
