Cassarà Wines: A taste of Sicily in every glass

Some wines do more than accompany a meal. They tell the story of a place, the people who made them and generations of tradition. That is exactly what you’ll find in every bottle from Cassarà Wines.

Gastro Nicks' range of Cassara wines

Produced in Alcamo, in the province of Trapani in north-west Sicily, Cassarà has been making wine since 1860. What began with Pietro Cassarà has been passed from one generation to the next, through Rocco, Nicolò and now Antonello Cassarà, with each generation building on the family’s knowledge while embracing new ideas and technology.

Today, Cassarà wines are enjoyed around the world, yet their heart remains firmly rooted in the rolling Sicilian hills just a few kilometres from the magnificent ancient Temple and Theatre of Segesta.

A landscape made for wine

North-west Sicily may not receive quite as much attention as the vineyards surrounding Mount Etna, but it produces some of the island’s most characterful and approachable wines.

The vineyards lie within the Alcamo DOC, where warm Mediterranean sunshine is balanced by cooling sea breezes. These conditions allow the grapes to ripen beautifully while retaining freshness, creating wines that are vibrant, expressive and wonderfully food-friendly.

It’s a landscape that has shaped Sicilian winemaking for centuries, and one that continues to define the distinctive style of Cassarà.

Celebrating Sicily’s native grapes

At the heart of the Cassarà range are Sicily’s own indigenous grape varieties.

Grillo is one of the island’s best-loved white grapes, producing fresh, aromatic wines with plenty of Mediterranean character.

Catarratto, another traditional Sicilian variety, has been cultivated here for generations and continues to showcase the region’s unique identity.

For red wine lovers, Nero d’Avola delivers everything many people love about Sicilian wine – ripe fruit, generous flavour and an appealing freshness. There’s also a rosé.

The winery also produces the less common Perricone, another native Sicilian variety that reflects the island’s rich winemaking heritage.

Alongside these traditional grapes, Cassarà has also successfully cultivated international varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, sold under the Jacaranda label, and Syrah, both of which thrive in Sicily’s unique microclimate.

Organic vineyards and a greener future

Sustainability is an important part of the Cassarà story.

Much of the portfolio is produced using organic (BIO) viticulture, reflecting the family’s commitment to caring for both the vineyards and the environment.

Since 2011, the winery has also powered its operations using a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system, generating clean, renewable energy and helping to reduce its environmental impact.

It’s an approach that protects both the landscape that makes these wines possible and the generations who will continue making them.

From Sicily with love

Cellar Master Antonello Cassarà sums up the family’s philosophy perfectly:

“From Sicily with love: every glass tells a story, every bottle reveals a philosophy. Wine is art, wine is culture.”

That passion shines through in every bottle.

Whether you’re discovering Sicilian wines for the first time or already love the island’s distinctive style, Cassarà offers an authentic taste of one of Italy’s most exciting wine regions – full of sunshine, history, family tradition and unmistakable Sicilian character.

Cassarà were the first wines that Gastro Nicks ever imported back in 2008. We’re delighted to still be stocking their exceptional wines and bringing a little taste of Sicily to Wiltshire.
